What's Up Wednesday, May 22, 2024 #121

Ken Tuley ·

This week on What's Up Wednesday, more pins, a new "crew" item, and we're down to the last days of our big birthday sale.

The 2024 pins just keep on coming. Now available, the Chase Crew pin. The design matches the patch released last week with the balloons in the sky and the crew packing up the truck to head out to chase and retrieve the balloon. It's a great way to identify yourself as an insider, whether you are or not.

If you are crew or just need a way to light up your way without tying up your hands, then you're going to want to grab our new Balloon Fiesta LED cap. The bill of the cap features 5 bright led lights that you can flip on with just a push of the button embedded in the bill. It's perfect for Balloon Glows, Dawn Patrol, or anytime you want to shed a little light on the subject. The cap is undated so it's a great year-round item.

While balloon pilots can't fly without their crew, one of their favorite flights while in Albuquerque is to do a Splash and Dash. That's where you take the balloon down to the surface of the water in the Rio Grande. The trick is to get just the bottom of the basket wet, too deep and your feet get wet, missing the water doesn't count. This gentle skimming of the water doesn't really cause a splash but more of a ripple in the water. Nevertheless, our playful Splash 'n' Dash pin depicts a number of balloons, including a frog special shape, creating waves in the water.

Like we said last week, inventory is already split out among our Gift Shop, Balloon Fiesta Stuff online, and our event merchandise tents. Buy them now to ensure you'll get the ones you desire.

For all you procrastinators out there, this is the last week for our big clearance sale. It's been so successful that we have run out of free gifts, so if you were waiting until the end to shop, you've missed out on that bonus. Prices remain up to 75% off on most 2023 dated items and again quantities, sizes and colors are more limited by the day.

A reminder that our office and physical gift shop will be closed tomorrow, Thursday, May 23 through Monday, May 27, for staff training and Memorial Day. While the online store remains open 24/7, orders placed on those days will be processed the following day.

Finally, enjoy the holiday weekend ahead, but take some time to remember the reason for the holiday. First observed in 1868, Decoration Day was proclaimed to honor the Union soldiers who died during the Civil War. While the entire nation was marking the occasion by 1890, it was in 1971 that Congress standardized the observance as Memorial Day to be observed on the last Monday of May.

To all our military families, a very special and heartfelt Thank You for your service and sacrifice.

To everyone, thank you for your support of Balloon Fiesta and Balloon Fiesta Stuff.
